Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important representative commented the incident left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
