19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.
Presently training with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.
Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better service.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.
Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
